Ace High has clung on by the barest of margins to take out the 2017 Spring Champion Stakes at Randwick on Saturday after a beautiful frontrunning ride by Tye Angland.
The David Payne-trained colt jumped straight to the lead and after well-rated ride by Angland proved too tough in finish to cling on from the fast-finishing Tangled ($5.50) by a short-half-head with a further 1-1/2 lengths back to Sully ($8.50) in third.
Once again, Racenet was on hand to get the feedback from every rider after the race.

Went forward again today, we thought there was going to be a bit more pressure. He just had a beautiful run and I thought I would make it a staying test. I was on empty late, but the easy sectionals early that I got paid dividends. Not many people would know I missed my brother's wedding today for this fella. |

Great run. Pace was dictated by the leader and didn't suit my horse. But he ran a great race, full credit to the winner but with a little bit more luck he probably nearly gets him. |

He ran terrific. From where he drew he got back but if he had drawn a gate he probably ends up third or fourth and probably wins the race. |

He missed the start which had me going to plan B, we were going to go forward. He was back last and racing a little bit keen because of the steady tempo. He did a good job to run on and run fourth so a nice effort after bungling the start. |
