Deep Field's Razeta Powers to Victory in Desirable Stakes

Mark Smith - Thursday November 3

A luckless sixth in the Listed Reginald Allen Quality at Randwick, Bob Hannon’s homebred filly Razeta came with a barnstorming finish to capture the Listed Off The Track Desirable Stakes (1400m) at Flemington on Thursday.

Ridden by Hugh Bowman for Kris Lees, the daughter of Deep Field powered home to defeat the well-supported Al Maher filly Grey River by a length, with Divine Prophet filly See You In Heaven a length back in third.

A winner at Wyong when on debut in June, Razeta advances her record to two wins and a second from five starts with earnings of $147,440.

“She didn’t have a great deal of luck in the Reginald Allen, she stepped straight from 1100 to there and that really topped her off for today.

Kris Lees credited Bob Hannon with the decision to run in the Desirable.

"She was in at Randwick on Tuesday, in just a benchmark race, and Bobby Hannon, he pushed me into running, so I’ve got to give credit to him.

“She’s a valuable filly with a nice pedigree, and it’s just got a little bit better.

“I don’t think we’ll go too far this preparation with her. I think we’re going to have a really nice filly in the autumn. We’ll just see how she comes through today.

“I think she showed today she can measure up to the better fillies next time around.”

Hugh Bowman said he has a long association with the stable.

“Thinking back to 2008 when Samantha Miss won the VRC Oaks, it was my first Group 1 in Melbourne, so I’ve got a long association with the stable.

“He doesn’t bring them here to make up the numbers, he’s an excellent trainer, places them well, and it’s a pleasure to ride for him.

“The horse was travelling supremely well for me, I had a good run in transit from a nice draw, and I felt I was going better than all the horses around me as we approved the home turn.

“I just didn’t have too many options, so I just bided my time and waited, and I could see Blake Shinn travelling very well just to my inside, and I thought I’d let him make his way through and then the run presented itself in front of me and when I got her into clear air the response was outstanding.”

A sister to Newgate Farm’s Group II ATC Roman Consul Stakes winner, Cosmic Force, and Listed Red Roses Stakes winner Onemorezeta, Razeta is the third stakes-winner and seventh winner overall from eight to race out of the Commands mare Little Zeta.

Descending from the family of Dark Jewels’ half-sister Nippy Vista, Little Zeta has a 2yo colt by Deep Field who was a $170,000 purchase for Upper Bloodstock from the Ascot Park draft at the 2022 Inglis Classic Yearling Sale.and is entered for the NZB Reay To Run Sale

Little Zeta has a yearling filly by Capitalist and visited Merchant Navy last spring.

Razeta is the 21st stakes-winner for Newgate Farm’s Deep Field.
