Kerrin McEvoy forced to forgo ride on Kiwi stakes performer

Champion jockey Kerrin McEvoy has been forced to forfeit his ride aboard the Group II-winning New Zealander All Our Roads when he makes his Australian debut at Randwick in the Bowermans Office Furniture Handicap (1400m) on Saturday.

McEvoy had ridden All Our Roads for Chris Waller at each of his three Australian trials and had the six-year-old as his preferred mount in Saturday's handicap but was obliged to ride stablemate Invinzabeel due to the weights of the two horses.

"I know Kerrin McEvoy wanted to ride All Our Roads but he's on the stablemate Invinzabeel who he's had good success on," Waller said.

"Kerrin is a loyal player and he has opted to ride Invinzabeel because we couldn't get a rider at that weight."

"Lee Magorrian takes the ride and he has really found some form.

"He's riding great and riding with confidence. He claims 3kg and gets his weight down to 54.5kg and is drawn well."

Despite McEvoy being the obvious top-elect on stables more favoured runner, Magorrian has been fortunate enough to pick up the ride on the New Zealand stakes performer as he can only ride at a minimum weight of 54kg and Invinzabeel required a weight of 53.5kg.

Magorrian will be aiming for his third Saturday win in four weeks after riding Wayne Seelin's Isorich to victory at his past two starts.

The son of Road To Rock, formerly trained in New Zealand by Donna Logan and Chris Gibbs, won the Group II Japan NZ International Trophy (1600m) and wasn't beaten far in the Group II Easter Stakes last start, beating home subsequent Group I Metropolitan placegetter Chocante in the process.

Waller is confident that the gelding's class will take the gelding a long way on Saturday in the open handicap.

"He's a good horse, a good horse," Waller said.

All Our Roads is currently $14 with Sportsbet while Invinzabeel is quoted at $23 with Luxbet.
