Zoustar Filly Explosive on Debut

Tara Madgwick - Wednesday October 26

Chris Waller already has one superstar Zoustar filly in his stable in G1 Flight Stakes winner Zougotcha and he may have another with Kazou running up to her brilliant trials to score a facile debut victory at Randwick on Wednesday.

Tackling 1300m first up in a very competitive fillies field, Kazou went to the front for Kerrin McEvoy and cruised along before dashing clear down the running to win by nearly five lengths over another Zoustar filly in Cavaup.

“She’s a tiny bit revvy, but the further she went in the race the better rhythm she got into,” said McEvoy.

“Going to the start she took a bit of managing, but she’ll get the hang of it, so that was pretty impressive.”

A $200,000 Inglis Easter purchase from the Coolmore draft for Chris Waller Racing / Mulcaster Bloodstock, Kazou runs in the colours of Gandharvi Racing in whose colours she runs and has a big group of owners.

Kazou won with a leg in the air on debut! $200,000 Inglis Easter well spent.

“Pretty impressive performance and while Kerrin had a soft time in front and was able to dictate and do as he pleased, she still let down with a terrific turn of foot and she’s obviously go a very bright future,” said stable representative Charlie Duckworth.

Kazou is the first Australian winner for Kuldeep Singh Rajput of Gandharvi Racing, whose colours featured in New Zealand on Saturday aboard impressive debut winning two year-old filly Ulanova, a first crop daughter of Santos.

“I was just on the phone to Kuldeep Rajput and this was his first runner in Australia in his own colours,” said Duckworth.

“He’s on his way down to Australia so no doubt we will catch up in the next couple of days and he’s got a good ownership group in her and she should give them a lot of joy.”

Bred at Coolmore, Kazou is the first Australian bred foal and fifth winner for US Group I winner Cat Moves (USA), a Tale of the Cat mare that left four winners in the US including the dam of stakes-winner Ain’t Life Grand.

Sadly, Kazou is her only Australian bred foal as Cat Moves died last year.
