G3 Winner for Exceed and Excel

Tara Madgwick - Friday October 21

Storms and persistent thunder and lightning forced the abandonment of the last three races at Moonee Valley last night including the Group I MVRC Manikato Stakes, which will now be run later today, so the only Black Type sprint in the last 24 hours was run in Ireland and victory went to Exceed and Excel speedster Manaccan.

Three year-old colt Manaccan already had a couple of Listed wins under his belt this season and upped the ante to win the Group III Dundalk Mercury Stakes (5f) as a short priced favourite.

The John Ryan trained Manaccan scored a half length win on the all weather track and has now won five of 14 starts.

He was bought for 100,000 guineas by Jamie Piggott Bloodstock at last year’s Tattersalls Guineas Breeze Up Sale and is a half-brother to stakes-winner Raucous and Group III placed Divine Spirit from good producer Shyrl, a Group II placed daughter of Acclamation.

Exceed and Excel has some blue blood Godolphin two year-olds entered for Randwick today and his star Group I winning sprinter September Run will line up in the re-scheduled G1 Manikato Stakes.
