Digital Sale grosses north of $2m for 38th consecutive time

Media Release - Wednesday October 12

A pair of broodmares at different spectrums of their breeding careers have shared top billing in today’s Inglis Digital October (Early) Online Sale, both realising $150,000.

Romantic Road – an unraced 4YO blueblood by Frankel out of G1 winner Miss Keller who has yet to go to stud – and proven 10-year-old mare Seagrove (Exceed And Excel) topped the auction together, helping the sale gross a healthy $2,202,400.

It is the 38th consecutive Inglis Digital auction to gross $2m or more and the two mares took the total number of lots to realise $100,000 or more since the platform’s inception to 303.

Unraced Frankel mare Romantic Road (GB) sold for $150,000.

Offered by Waratah Thoroughbreds, Romantic Road was purchased by Emma Smith on behalf of Valencia Park in New Zealand.

A decision on the mare’s immediate future will be made in coming weeks.

“We bought her basically due to her pedigree, she’s a really valuable broodmare prospect especially considering her brother sold for €360,000 at Goffs last week,’’ Smith said.

“Look she may well race yet, she only trialled in September so while it’s unlikely, it’s still TBC but she’ll go to Brian Smith’s property in Queensland and the new owners will decide after that.

“I’ve bought three or four horses on Inglis Digital but none at that high price level. I find it really easy to use, it’s different to any live auction you go to and I really enjoy it.’’

Waratah representative Olly Koolman added: “The price exceeded our expectations quite remarkably to be honest.

“She’s so well bred but we just wanted to take advantage of the strong market that Inglis Digital is providing at the moment and it’s paid dividends as usual.’’

Seagrove was purchased off Swettenham Stud by Orbis Bloodstock in foal to Toronado.

The mare will likely be moved to Widden Victoria to foal down before visiting a stallion Orbis has a financial interest in.

Seagrove has a Toronado yearling colt that Swettenham’s Sam Matthews confirmed will be going to next year’s Premier Yearling Sale at Oaklands.

“We bought the mare as a trade mare, got some beautiful foals out of her, put her back in foal to Toronado and are thrilled with today’s price,’’ Matthews said.

“Inglis Digital does it again! We were happy to keep her if she didn’t sell but that result is absolutely huge.’’

Entries for the October (Late) Sale are now open and will close at midnight next Wednesday, October 19, with the sale running from October 21-26.
