Pedigree Watch UK – New G1 2YO Frankel

Tara Madgwick - Saturday October 8

Frankel colts were in hot demand at the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale this week and a colt bought from the December Foal Sale in 2020 for 550,000 guineas became his latest Group I winner when taking out the Dewhurst Stakes (7f) at Newmarket.

Frankel had the four highest priced yearlings at Tattersalls October Yearling Sale this week.

Frankel had the four highest priced horses sold at Tattersalls October this week and added a new Group I winner to his tally when the Andrew Balding trained colt Chaldean produced a fighting win in the Dewhurst under Frankie Dettori.

“We thought Chaldean was very good in early spring and into the summer, but he got beaten first time out. Since then he has gone on and on,” said Andrew Balding.

Chaldean has won four of five starts, three of those wins being stakes wins and this Group I victory is the icing on the cake.

“He had been out in front a long time and Frankie felt he kicked a little earlier than ideal but it was probably a race-winning move. He is versatile and he didn't have to make it but it didn't look like there was any obvious pace here. What we didn't want was it to turn into a sprint and for us to be out of our ground,” said Balding.

“He will be fine (in a Guineas) and the bigger the field the better off he will be. He is all speed on his dam side out of a Dutch Art mare and I'd be surprised if he got further than a mile.”

Chaldean was bred by Whitsbury Manor Stud and sold as a foal to Juddmonte Farms for 550,000 guineas at the Tattersalls December Foal Sale.

He is a half-brother to Group II winner Alkumait and stakes-winner The Broghie Man as well as two more stakes-placed horses being the best of six winners from terrific producer Suelita.

Chaldean is the 26th Group I winner for Frankel and is his ninth this year.
