Division Leaders After Two Months

Tara Madgwick - Monday October 3

After a big weekend of stakes racing in Sydney and Melbourne there has been some change on the sire tables so let’s take a look at the division leaders and they aren't all the expensive sires.

Widden Stud’s Zoustar has come out of the gates running and after two months of the new season is the first sire to hit $3million in earnings and is certainly playing with the big boys in posting four stakes-winners, which is on a par with I Am Invincible and Snitzel.

Zoustar is setting the pace as we move through spring, click for more information.

Rubick has had the least runners (90) of all sires in the Top 10 by earnings and with two runners in the Everest – Jacquinot and Shades of Rose – is likely to hold his place in this list for a good while yet.

Zoustar is fully booked at $198,000 and Rubick is no doubt working towards a full book given his spring achievements and is priced at the affordable fee of $22,000. If his fortunes continue to rise, Victorian breeders may not keep him for much longer.

The second season sires division has two contenders going neck and neck in Russian Revolution and Hellbent, who are tied on winners and both had new stakes horses last weekend. Big difference in their service fees though with Russian Revolution priced at $71,500 and Hellbent at $22,000, both are fully booked.

Third season sires division has Capitalist the first to break $1million in earnings with his nearly 100 runners headed by the promising stakes-winner Economics. Astern likely to be a big mover after the Caulfield Guineas this Saturday as he has the favourite Golden Mile.

Again a big difference in fee there with Capitalist at $99,000 and Astern at $11,000.
