Ben Dorries - Wednesday October 4

Punters have found a bizarre new way to do their cash when jumper Stick To The Plan unseated its jockey with an easy victory only metres away at Southwell overnight.

Punters thought they were counting their cash at Southwell overnight ... but found a new way to lose their dosh

There was high drama in a novices hurdle over 4818m after the well-backed $2.75 favourite scooted five lengths clear and had the race at its mercy.

After safely clearing the final hurdle and surging away in the five-horse field, the hurdler was matched in running at $1.01 in running on Betfair for more than £50,000.

But then disaster struck when Stick To The Plan shifted in and caused claiming jockey Bridget Andrews to lose an iron, and crash to the turf with the finishing line almost within touching distance.

Nemean Lion, a $9 chance, who will surely now get the reputation as the Steven Bradbury of jumps horses, was handed victory as punters reached for the nearest sick bag.

Despite cries from some punters of something fishy going on, it appeared to be simply a legitimate error from the jockey who was unhurt but visibly upset.

"He was almost too careful at the last and shot me up in the air and I lost my stirrup," Andrews told The Racing Post.

"I got it back again but he jinked up the run in and I lost my balance – it's as simple as that."
