Pedigree Watch – UK and France – 100 SWs Sea the Stars

Tara Madgwick - Friday September 23

It’s been a big 24 hours for Aga Khan Stud’s Sea the Stars, who had his 99th stakes-winner last night at Moonee Valley when Desert Icon (Fr) won the Group III MVRC JRA Cup and followed up with another new stakes-winner in France overnight, while Kingman unleashed another star juvenile, this time a filly.

The Group II Rockfel Stakes (7f) at Newmarket produced another impressive new stakes-winner for Kingman when the John and Thady Gosden trained filly Commissioning powered thrashed a big field of 14 to win by nearly three lengths at her second start.

A homebred for Abdulla Al-Khalifa & Isa Salman, Commissioning has won two from two and has entry for the Group I Fillies Mile next month.

“The Fillies' Mile comes quickly but Commissioning doesn't have to run again. It is close to home and we are not travelling the length and breadth of the country. If she is happy and well we might look at it. She will get that mile. There is also a Breeders' Cup invitation. We did that before with a filly that won this (Juliet Capulet). She didn't stay a mile, but this one will,” said John Gosden.

Commissioning is the 52nd stakes-winner for Kingman and is bred very stoutly on her dam’s side being the first winner for unraced Galileo mare Sovereign Parade, a sister to dual Group I winning stayer Capri – Irish Derby, St Leger - and Group winning stayers Passion and Cypress Creek.

A half-brother to the legendary Galileo, Sea the Stars racked up his 100th stakes-winner when Godolphin homebred filly Life in Motion won the Listed Prix Coronation (1600m) at Saint-Cloud.

Trained by Andre Fabre, Life in Motion has won three of six starts and is the best of six winners from Group I winner Wavering and to the dam of Champion French 2YO and dual Group I winner Earthlight (IRE), currently covering his first book of mares at Darley in NSW at a fee of $22,000.
