One to Watch – Tamworth

Tara Madgwick - Monday September 12

Joe O’Neil of Prime Thoroughbreds has a happy knack for unearthing talented fillies and his colours were carried to victory at Tamworth on Monday by a promising daughter of Star Turn.

Trained by Kris Lees, Athena Nyx finished midfield on debut over 900m at Scone last month, but appreciated a step up to 1200m to win the all aged maiden by a length and a half.

A $90,000 Inglis Classic purchase for Prime Thoroughbreds from the Vinery Stud draft, Athena Nyx is the fifth winner from five foals to race from Group II winner Night War, a half-sister to dual Group I winner Samaready, the dam of $2.4million earning Group III winner Exhilarates.

Athena Nyx was a $90,000 Inglis Classic purchase.

With his oldest progeny just turned four, Star Turn has sired some very smart fillies headed by his Group I winner Startantes and Athena Nyx might be well worth following into better company.
