Arrowfield Blueblood Waltz on By Breaks the Ice

Tara Madgwick - Wednesday September 7

Her mother Stay With Me won the Group I MRC Thousand Guineas and so did her grand-mother Miss Finland and that dream is now very much alive for I Am Invincible filly Waltz on By, who shed maiden status with an easy victory at Sandown on Wednesday.

A homebred for Arrowfield Stud prepared by Peter Moody, Waltz on By had never competed in anything other than a stakes race in four previous starts until lining up in the Benchmark 64 event over 1300m.

She appreciated the drop in grade to score a stylish length and a half win under Luke Nolen and will take great confidence out of the run.

Stable representative Katherine Coleman was well pleased with the win and expects Waltz on By to return to Black Type for her next start on her way towards the Group I MRC Thousand Guineas on October 12.

“She’s a horse that we have a really good opinion of and it’s really good to get this maiden out of the way so we can go on to bigger and better things,” she said.

“She handled the track quite well, but she’s still a little bit green and didn’t know how to quicken and put them away. Having that experience today, she should take really good improvement from it.

“We’ll head to a Listed race on Underwood Stakes day to get her out to 1400m and then hopefully on to the Thousand Guineas.”

Already stakes-placed, Waltz on By is the second foal and second winner from Street Cry (IRE) mare Stay With Me, the best of six winners from Arrowfield Stud’s Champion 2YO and 3YO Filly Miss Finland.

Arrowfield sold a Dundeel filly from Stay With Me for $1.7million at Inglis Easter this year to Hawkes Racing and she has a yearling colt by the same sire to follow. Stay With Me is now back in foal to Waltz on By’s sire I Am Invincible.
