Spring Potential Trial Watch

Tara Madgwick - Tuesday August 23

Rosehill barrier trials on Tuesday morning featured some Everest contenders and a promising filly with stakes ambitions and an entry for the Group I MRC Thousand Guineas.

The first heat was won by O’President having his first outing for new owners and a new trainer with Bjorn Baker taking over the Fastnet Rock gelding following his sale on Inglis Digital for $435,000 back in  May.

A quality Group winner that has won over $300,000, O’President was given a good hit out and powered clear to win by more than three lengths with Everest contenders Mazu and Masked Crusader steaming home in the placings.

Also worth watching back in the pack, Group I BRC JJ Atkins Stakes winner Sheeza Belter and exciting So You Think colt Political Debate, both given very quiet trials.

Also trained by Bjorn Baker, Vancouver filly Wingardium looked sharp in winning her heat and will go to the races ready to fire after beating Zougotcha in her first trial back.

With an impressive win and a second from her only starts to date, Wingardium appears to have plenty of upside and may well be another bargain priced filly to make good for Darby Racing. She comes from the family of Group I WA Derby winner Honor Lap and brilliant Group II winning juvenile Clan O’Sullivan.
