Tara Madgwick - Monday August 22

Grahame Begg had an interesting first starter at Pakenham on Monday, producing the half-sister to his Champion 2YO Written By for a winning debut.

Three year-old Zoustar filly C’Est Magique has taken a little longer to come to hand, but showed plenty of potential with a determined short neck in in the 1100m maiden beating older rivals.

“It’s the sign of a good horse to be able to go well at their first start,” said Grahame Begg.

“Every good horse I’ve ever trained has either won or run very well at their first start and I think she might be no exception, because she still doesn’t know what she’s doing.

“She’ll take great benefit from that as her coat is still to come through and she has a good bit of improvement to come.”

Bred by Neville Begg and raced by the Begg family, C’Est Magique is a half-sister to Group I MRC Blue Diamond Stakes winner Written By, who stand at Widden Stud and will have his first runners this season.

She is the sixth winner from six foals to race from Yau Chin, a winning Tobougg (IRE) mare that traces in tail female line to noted Australian blue hen Humour.

Yau Chin produced a full brother to Written By last  year and is in foal to Capitalist.

Zoustar

Zoustar has an exciting crop of three year-olds to run for him this season and has already made his mark with Zougotcha winning the Group II ATC Silver Shadow Stakes last Saturday and North Star Lass in third place, while his talented colt Millane resumed with a third in the Group III MRC Vain Stakes.
