$1.7million Zoustar Mare Wins G2 Dane Ripper

Tara Madgwick - Saturday June 15

Second to In Secret in the Group I VRC Coolmore Stud Stakes at Flemington in 2022, C’Est Magique has always shown the makings of an elite sprinter which is why Tom Magnier decided to purchase the four year-old daughter of Zoustar for $1.7million at the Inglis Chairman’s Sale last month.

Bred by Neville Begg and raced previously by the Begg family, C’Est Magique was transferred from the care of Grahame Begg to Chris Waller after the sale and she was having her first start for new connections in the Group II BRC Dane Ripper Stakes (1300m) at Eagle Farm on Saturday.

Despite having only won a maiden on debut, C’Est Magique has always been super competitive in tough company in subsequent runs and was well overdue for a win.

Ridden a positive race by James McDonald, C’Est Magique always looked the winner a long way from home and cruised to the line to win by nearly two lengths taking her overall record to two wins and five placings from 14 starts with prizemoney topping $760,000.

“I can’t take too much credit for that, Grahame Begg has prepared her really well throughout her career and Coolmore purchased the horse and entrusted our team to train her,” said Chris Waller.

“The Tatts Tiara (G1) is the plan, today was only the entrée, that’s the race she’s been set for.”

C’Est Magique is a half-sister to Group I MRC Blue Diamond Stakes winner Written By, who stand at Widden Stud, and is the second stakes-winner among seven winners from top producer Yau Chin, a winning Tobougg (IRE) mare that traces in tail female line to noted Australian blue hen Humour.

Yau Chin has a yearling filly by Capitalist and is now in foal to Zoustar after missing to him the previous season.

C’Est Magique is the 55th stakes-winner for Zoustar and is his 16th in Australia this season.
