Blue-Blood Frankel Wins at Randwick

Tara Madgwick - Saturday August 20

John Camilleri’s Fairway Thoroughbreds have already tasted success with Frankel, who has given them high class Group winning filly Argentia and they have an up and coming young stayer by the champion sire in Impulsar (IRE), who is from the 2013 Arqana Deauville Yearling Sale top lot.

Impulsar was a Breednet 'One to Watch' in June and won at Randwick on Saturday - image Steve Hart.

Trained by Ciaron Maher and David Eustace, four year-old gelding Impulsar was a winner at Dundalk last year when trained by Joseph O'Brien before coming to Australia.

He broke his Australian maiden at Sandown in June and then won at Pakenham two starts later before being sent to Sydney for the Benchmark 78 event over 2400m.

Impulsar produced a strong staying effort to win by more than a length for Brenton Avdulla and has now won four of six starts and three of four in Australia.

Impulsar holds entries for the Caulfield and Melbourne Cups so is obviously held in high regard.

Bred and retained to race by Fairway Thoroughbreds, Impulsar is the second foal and first winner for blue-blood Dubawi mare Propel, who was retired to stud unraced after being purchased by James Harron Bloodstock for 1.5million euros on behalf of Fairway Thoroughbreds to top the 2013 Arqana Deauville Yearling Sale.

The dam of Impulsar is Propel, pictured as a yearling - top lot at the 2013 Arqana Yearling Sale.

By Dubawi from Hit the Sky, Propel is a half-sister to Group winners Royal Bench, Mayhem and Memphis Tennessee and her grand-dam is Group I winner Cerulean Sky, a three-quarter sister to Group I Irish Oaks winner Moonstone.

Propel has a 2YO colt by Dark Angel called Silver Legend to follow and a yearling colt by Gleneagles.

Impulsar is bred on the successful Frankel x Dubawi nick that has produced 23 winners from 27 runners, five of them stakes-winners and three of those Group I winners at a SW to runner strike rate of 18.5%!
