Snitzel Filly Crystalane All Courage on Debut

Mark Smith - Tuesday August 16

Royally bred Snitzel filly Crystalane kick-started her career in style with a brave front-running performance in an 1100m fillies and mares maiden plate at Wyong on Tuesday.

Ridden by Tom Sherry for Mark Newnham, Crystalane repelled the challenge of Godolphin’s Ribchester (IRE) filly Perpignan by a half-head with a short-half-head back to the 4yo Stratum star mare Edna in third.

Well-schooled with four barrier trials

“She is a nice filly that has been well-prepared by Mr Newnham and the team at home,” Sherry said.

“She trialed up well, has a brilliant attitude and a great temperament. She did a lot of things right today. She had a good look around, which was to be expected, but she knuckled down.

“There is plenty of improvement left in her.

“With her attitude, she should stretch out over further.”

Crystalane a $475,000 Inglis Easter yearling

Bred by China Horse Club Racing, the 3yo filly is the third winner from as many to race out of the talented Encosta de Lago mare Crystal Flute.

A sister to Precious Lorraine, Lucky Raquie and Quench The Thirst, and a three-quarter sister to Manhattan Rain, Rubick and Echoes of Heaven, Crystal Flute was a $1.4 million purchase for China Horse Clube from the draft of Teeley Assets at the 2016 National Broodmare Sale.

She is one of four daughters of Redoute’s Choice’s sister Monsoon Wedding to sell for $1 million or more.

Kia-Ora Stud shelled out $500,000 for Crystal Flute’s Pierro filly (named Pajanti) consigned by Sledmere Stud to the 2022 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale.

Crystal Flute has a yearling colt by Justify (USA) and visited So You Think last spring.
