Juvenile Trial Watch – Gosford

Tara Madgwick - Friday July 29

Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott sent a big team of horses to Gosford to trial on the grass on Friday morning including Sydney Cup winner Knight’s Order and a raft of rising three year-olds with three in particular that caught our eye.

Burgunder went to the spelling paddock a winner and looks ready to pick up where he left off - image Steve Hart.

Snitzel colt Burgunder had two starts in April and was last seen winning the Clarendon Stakes at Hawkesbury over 1400m and looks to have come back in great shape. He sat outside the leader and found the line well under hands and heels to win by a length pulling away with ears pricked.

A $300,000 Inglis Easter purchase from the Arrowfield Stud draft for G Waterhouse / A Bott / Kestrel Thoroughbreds, he is the first foal of the Waterhouse Bott trained VRC Oaks winner Pinot, so appeals as a likely candidate to get a mile and probably further.

Zoustar gelding Nominator showed loads of pace in his heat to lead easily and kick on for a comfortable two length win. Already a winner last preparation at Gosford, he was last seen running fourth in the Group III ATC Kindergarten Stakes and looked sharp here to tackle some of the early spring stakes races.

A $180,000 Magic Millions purchase for Gai Waterhouse/Adrian Bott/Kestrel Thoroughbreds from the Kitchwin Hills draft, Nominator is from Group I placed Danroad mare Designated Driver.

Also by Zoustar, unraced colt Scientist scored a brilliant first ever trial win on the all weather track on July 8 and was able to win again on the grass this time over 1000m. He jumped well and led all the way under a hold to win by three lengths.

Scientist is the first foal of former Waterhouse Bott star filly Global Glamour, a dual Group I winner by Star Witness. He was a $600,000 Magic Millions purchase for his trainers from the Coolmore draft and runs for Coolmore and partners.

A $600,000 Magic Millions purchase, Scientist is the first foal of Global Glamour.

Other 2YO heat winners were: Quinlan (I Am Invincible), Emerald Cut (Snitzel) and Hollywood Hero (Sacred Falls).
