Pedigree Watch – UK, Ireland - Exciting 2YO's on the Up

Tara Madgwick - Thursday July 21

Well bred juveniles were front and centre overnight in the UK and Ireland with some blue-bloods claiming their first Black Type wins and Frankel making as a mark as a sire of sires with a first stakes-winner for his Group I winning son Cracksman.

The Listed Star Stakes (7f) at Sandown gave Cracksman his first stakes-winner when promising filly Dance in the Grass made it two wins in as many starts with a three-quarter length win as favourite.

Trained by Charlie and Mark Johnston, Dance in the Grass was bought by her trainers for 57,000 guineas at the Tattersalls October Book 1 Yearling Sale.

She is the first winner for stakes-placed Dance the Dream, a daughter of stakes-winner Shadow Dancing.

Dance in the Grass is the best of seven winners from just 11 runners by Cracksman, who stands at Darley’s Dalham Hall at a fee of 17,500 pounds.

The Group III Silver Flash Stakes (7f) at Leopardstown was won in good style by Coolmore blueblood filly Never Ending Story, who scored by half a length and has now won two of three starts.

Trained by Aidan O’Brien and ridden by Ryan Moore, Never Ending Story is bred to be special being by Dubawi from Camelot’s Group I Belmont Oaks winner Athena, who is a grand-daughter of the legendary Urban Sea.

She is the 235th stakes-winner for Dubawi and is the very first for Epsom Derby winning sire Camelot as a broodmare sire.

The Group III Tyros Stakes (7f) at Leopardstown was won by Coolmore homebred Galileo colt Proud and Regal, trained by Donnacha O’Brien.

He stepped up from a debut win at the Curragh last month to lead all the way and win by more than a length becoming the 357th stakes-winner for champion sire Galileo.

The first 2YO stakes-winner for Galileo this year, Proud and Regal is a full brother to Group III winner Mekong River and is a brother-in-blood to Group III winners Bondi Beach and Constantinople being the fourth winner from Danehill’s dual Group I winner Simply Perfect.
