Widden Stud Young Guns Well Represented in Slipper Nominations

You’ve got to be in it to win it and Widden Stud’s young gun sires Trapeze Artist and Written By both feature prominently in the list of nominations for the 2023 Golden Slipper Stakes to be run at Rosehill next March.

Widden Stud’s flagship sire Zoustar has 92 entries that include his $3million colt from Solar Charged, but Trapeze Artist and Written By have also made their presence felt.

A four time Group I winning son of champion sire Snitzel, Trapeze Artist had yearlings sell for up to $850,000 and has 67 entries for the Golden Slipper making him the most represented of all first season sires.

His top selling colt from Cocoa Doll has been entered by his trainer Phillip Stokes and has already been named Trapeze Warrior.

Bred and sold by Mill Park, $850,000 Magic Millions purchase Trapeze Warrior is among the entries.

Ciaron Maher Racing have nominated his second highest priced yearling, a colt from Viviette (IRE) that sold for $650,000 and has been named Tumbling.

The Champion 2YO Colt of his generation, Group I MRC Blue Diamond Stakes winner Written By has 41 entries.

His most expensive yearling was the $410,000 colt from The Messina Nymph and he has been entered by his purchaser/ trainer Bjorn Baker.

His next two highest priced yearlings, colts from Heriz and Elite Ateates that sold for $380,000, have been entered by their trainers Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott and Tony and Calvin McEvoy.

Trapeze Artist is priced at $55,000 this spring and Written By at $27,500.
