De Gaulle Filly Impresses on Debut

From a handful of runners, the young Bombora Downs stallion De Gaulle notched his third winner at Moe on Saturday, with the debutant Rosa’s Revenge proving a class above in the 1114m maiden for three-year-old fillies.

Ridden by Matt Chadwick for Pakenham-based trainer Rachael Cunningham, Rosa’s Revenge was prominent throughout. She was strong to the line in defeating Juice Box (Kuroshio) by one and a quarter lengths with a further four and a quarter lengths back to Royal Lane (Mint Lane) in third.

Rosa’s Revenge is a homebred for De Gaulle’s part-owner John Pratt who launched the Exceed And Excel stallions career at his Brooker Park.

She is the fourth winner from five to race out of the Kashani mare Centashani whose son Nordic Pride (Zoffany) won over 3000m at Sandown in April.

The hard-knocking Centashani was a smart mare in her own right, winning six of her 47 starts, including Flemington and Sandown.

An unraced son of Exceed And Excel, De Gaulle is a half-brother to the Group 1 ATC Golden Slipper heroine Estijaab (Snitzel) and the promising Remarque out of the Group 1 MRC Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes and Group 1 Robert Sangster Classic winner Response (Charge Forward).

The family could be on the improve with the rising 2YO Snitzel colt from Response selling for $2.25 million at Inglis Easter this year and he is among entries for the 2023 Golden Slipper.  

De Gaulle stands alongside the promising Dandino, Warhorse, Jungle Ruler and Frankel My Dear at Bombora Downs, where his 2022 fee has been set at $5,500.
