Spirit Of Boom's Honey Pot and Spiritualised Battle Out a Thriller

Mark Smith - Saturday July 16

The Tony Gollan-trained Spirit Of Boom pair, Honey Pot and Spiritualised did the sponsor proud with a battle royale in the Eureka Stud Hcp (1200m) at Eagle Farm, and in the context of the 2yo sire championship, the right one won.

The Alan and Jennifer Acton colour-bearer Honey Pot has had a busy season with little luck, which for the longest time, looked as if it might continue.

Spiritualised set up what looked like a winning break before Honey Pot knuckled down to get the bob in on the line. It was a further three and a quarter lengths back to the Deep Field filly Rose Of Shiraz in third.

Twice stakes placed, Honey Pot’s winning breakthrough at her sixth start takes Spirit Of Boom to 23 individual 2yo winners this season, tying Better Than Ready.

“She has been awfully unlucky her whole career,” Gollan said.

“She never draws a barrier, she’s always had great ability, and when the colt kicked away at the furlong, she did a mighty job to knuckle down and beat him.

Honey Pot a $300,000 Magic Millions yearling

“They are both well above average two-year-olds that will develop in to beautiful three-year-olds.

“The stable is happy, and I’m sure Mr Acton is happy up in Rockhampton.

“She is a beautiful filly, lovely to look at and a great type of horse. Maturity was always going to be her friend.

“It’s about time she drew a good barrier and got a good ride by Jimmy (Byrne).”

Honey Pot was a $300,000 purchase by her owners from the Three Bridges Thoroughbreds draft at the 2021 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale.

She is the fourth winner from as many to race out of the winning General Nediym mare Fairchild, a $370,00 purchase by Paul Willetts Bloodstock Consultancy for Unencumbered Syndicate at the 2016 Inglis Australian Broodmare Sale.

Yes Bloodstock shelled out $320,000 for Fairchild’s Hellbent filly consigned by Three Bridges to the 2022 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale.

A daughter of the Magic Millions 2yo Classic winner Dancer’s Joy (Danazatore), Fairchild has a weanling filly by impending and visited Blue Point (IRE) last spring.
