Fastnet Rock – Quality Never Goes Out of Fashion

Tara Madgwick - Friday July 15

There are a lot of ways to measure success in a sire, but for the truly elite stallions there is really only one and it’s Group I winners and on that score Fastnet Rock has no peers, so let's take a look at the mares he covered last spring.

Turning 21 this year, he is the leading active Australian sire by lifetime Group I winners with his global tally of 42 more than double that of his nearest rivals.

Fastnet Rock is in a class of his own among active Australian sires!

While his days of covering 200 plus books of mares are gone, Fastnet Rock is still enjoying his job and covered 76 mares last spring after returning from Coolmore Ireland where he covered 55 mares at the start of the year.

This year he will be fresh for our breeding season having stayed in Australia over the summer ending a long period of shuttling back to Ireland which he started in 2010.

His fertility is not what it was, however the rewards for a successful mating are great with his Inglis Easter average this year on 14 yearlings sold coming in just shy of $500,000 with a filly from Sword of Light selling for $1million.
