One to Watch – Gosford

Tara Madgwick - Thursday July 14

So You Think does not get a lot of two year-old winners, so when one of his babies wins on debut by three it’s always going to catch the eye especially when it’s bred on a ‘nick that clicks’!

Thinking Rain wins impressively at Gosford - image Bradley Photography

Thinking Rain was given two quiet trials last month by Gary Portelli before heading to the races at Gosford on Thursday for a 1200m maiden.

A big filly that is very typical of her sire, Thinking Rain jumped well, but was allowed to settle and find her feet by Willie Pike travelling back and wide for much of the race.

Asked to go forward coming to the turn, she swept up as the widest runner and powered to the line to win by three lengths running away with ears pricked.

Thinking Rain was retained to race by her breeder Malcolm Russell, a former hotelier, who established Royal Stone Stud in 2019 near Rylstone in the Central Tablelands region of NSW.

Thinking Rain is the fifth winner from five foals to race from unraced Redoute’s Choice mare Cleo’s Raine, a three-quarter sister to Group III winner Egyptian Symbol from Group I winner Our Egyptian Raine.

The family was in the news earlier this year when the first foal from Egyptian Symbol, a colt by I Am Invincible, was sold by Cressfield for $1.5million to Kia-Ora Stud / TFI / Ciaron Maher Bloodstock at Inglis Easter.

So You Think stands at Coolmore at a fee of $93.500 , click for more info.

Thinking Rain is bred on a super successful nick with So You Think achieving 80% winners to runners with daughters of Redoute’s Choice and the nick delivering four stakes-winners – G 1 winners D’Argento and Inference, G2 winner Fasika and rising star Illation.
