Ranges All Heart in Ramornie Triumph

Mark Smith - Wednesday July 13

It may have taken eight runs for Ranges to break his maiden but in his thirty-five starts, the rising 6yo son of Shooting To Win has been a model of consistency, which had its reward in Wednesday’s $200,000 Listed Ramornie Handicap at Grafton.

Ridden by Tom Sherry, Ranges credited Peter Snowden with his fifth win in the race and third since joining forces with son Paul.

It was the second stakes win for Ranges, who captured the Listed Hinkler Hcp at Eagle Farm on June 11 before finishing third in the Group III Healey Quality at Eagle Farm at his most recent start.

Given a positive ride by Sherry, Ranges held the challenge of Gem Song (Your Song) by three-quarter of a length with Fender (Toronado) a head back in third.

The Triple Crown Syndications colour-bearer advances his record to eight wins, seven seconds, and eleven thirds from 35 starts with earnings of $555,835.

Pinhooked for $100,000 from the Rothwell Park draft at the 2017 National Weanling Sale, Ranges was bought by Triple Crown Syndications for $140,000 from the Baramul Stud draft at the Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale.

Bred by the estate of the late Don Storey, Ranges is the ninth foal of the highly talented Octagonal mare I Believe, who won four of her five starts.

The second foal of I Believe, is the Joe Pride-trained speedball Rain Affair, was a triple Group II winner and four-time Group 1 placed son of Commands.

A half-sister to stakes-winner Walk Alone, I Believe has not had a foal since the winning 3yo Flying Artie colt Preach.

After seven seasons at Darley Stud, Group 1 Caulfield Guineas winner Shooting To Win is moving to Nevill Duncan’s Oaklands Park Stud, WA.

The brother to Deep Field will stand for a fee of $9,000.
