Extreme Choice- Roll the Dice

Tara Madgwick - Thursday July 7

Newgate Farm’s Extreme Choice stands for $275,000 this spring making him the most expensive sire in the country, so we thought it might be interesting to see what his book looked like last year when he was listed as fee on application.

An exciting stallion with well documented fertility issues, Extreme Choice has done some amazing things from quite limited numbers to date with his Group I winners Stay Inside and She’s Extreme leading the charge.

Extreme Choice

His seven stakes-winners to date come from just 40 runners giving him 17.5% stakes-winner to runner from his first two crops conceived at fees of $38,500 and $22,000.

He covered 76 mares last year and as expected a signficant number failed to go in foal with some high profile mares coming up empty including Black Caviar and Catchy, as well as the dams of Winx and Stay Inside.

So keep in mind with the lists below that some of these mares he covered last spring may not be in foal or may have then been covered by other sires.

Last year was the fifth season at stud for Extreme Choice, who covered 356 mares in the previous four seasons to produce 154 foals.

The market forces of supply and demand will ensure the progeny of Extreme Choice always sell for a premium, so breeders lucky enough to get a foal will be well rewarded.
