Seeds of Success – Night of Thunder

Tara Madgwick - Tuesday July 5

The Tattersalls July Sale starts this week featuring a smorgasbord of tried racehorses, race fillies and broodmare prospects guaranteed to tempt what is anticipated to be a large Australian buying bench and with many of the leading European sires being offered for Southern Hemisphere time covers we can expect the seeds of future racetrack success in Australia to be sewn this week.

One of the sires being spruiked for Southern Hemisphere covers is Darley’s Dubawi son Night of Thunder, who shuttled to Australia for one season in 2016.

That one Australian crop produced 38 winners from 44 runners highlighted by five stakes-winners at an impressive 13.1% SW to runner. The stakes-winners are – G1 Kukeracha, G2 Cherry Tortoni, G3 A Beautiful Night, plus SW’s River Night and Hela.

Night of Thunder stood for €75,000 at Kildangan Stud in Ireland this year and is available for Southern Hemisphere breeders at €50,000.

He posted his 30th stakes-winner overnight when Thunder Beauty scored a commanding five length win in the Listed Pontefract Pipalong Stakes (1m).

Trained by David O’Meara, the four year-old mare has been third, fourth and second in Group races this year so was overdue for a Black Type victory and got the job done in style.

She is the best of two winners from Quiania, a winning Dansili daughter of Group III winner Quilanga from a family packed with European stakes-winners.

The Night of Thunder x Dansili nick has impressive stats running at 100% success with nine winners from runners including three stakes-winners, plus another Group II placed horse.
