One of our smaller breeders in NSW has written in to offer her thoughts on Racing Australia and their rules regarding transfer of ownership of broodmares.
For anyone who has bought a broodmare at the recent sales, they may be surprised by the extra slug from Racing Australia who now require a transfer form filled in (paper, not even on-line) and then want a $55 payment to process said form.
Oh come on! The slug for the foal ownership declaration was bad enough, but this just adds another kick in the teeth to breeders big and small.
Two years ago I attempted to get a response from NSW Breeders Association, other racing bodies and various levels of government all to no avail pointing out the double dipping of the foal ownership declaration having to be done before a horse is named if the ownership is different (which it almost always is). I got nothing back as no-one seemed to have any say over how Racing Australia manages its procedures.
So – what is going on here? Can we again get a discussion going about these ever expanding fees. There is a much vaulted portal so why can’t we simply run these transfers through there without cost to the new owner? Is simply done with an automated confirmation email to the old owner and only would need office intervention if there was a dispute – which can happen with the forms anyway.
