Pedigree Watch – Ireland

Tara Madgwick - Friday June 24

Racing at the Curragh overnight highlighted the international success of Australian breeder Bob Scarborough and gave us a 2YO filly ‘one to watch’ with a big pedigree.

Bred by Scarborough and sold as a yearling at Tattersalls October Book 1 for 50,000 guineas, 5YO Zoffany gelding Camorra was a stylish winner of the Group II International Curragh Cup (1m6f) at his third run of the year.

A Group III winner previously, the Ger Lyons trained stayer looks set for another good year.

He is the best of four winners from six foals to race from French bred Mauralakana, who won a Group I win the US for Bob Scarborough, who has enjoyed notable success as a breeder in the Northern Hemisphere with superstar colts St Mark’s Basilica and Magna Grecia, both shuttling to Coolmore Australia this spring.

The juvenile fillies maiden over 7f was won by blue-blood Dubawi filly Never Ending Story at her second start. Trained by Aidan O’Brien and ridden by Ryan Moore, Never Ending Story is heading into stakes races following this impressive length and a quarter win.

A homebred for the Coolmore partners, Never Ending Story is the first foal for Group I Belmont Oaks winner Athena, a Camelot three-quarter sister to Group I winner Bracelet from stakes-placed Cherry Hinton, a daughter of the legend Urban Sea.

Cherry Hinton is a sibling to Group I winners Galileo, Sea the Stars, My Typhoon and Black Sam Bellamy, so pedigrees don’t get any better than this!
