Spirit Of Boom - Sire On Fire

Mark Smith - Sunday June 19

Tony Gollan’s faith in his former star sprinter Spirit Of Boom continues to reap rich rewards, with the pair combining to win both divisions of the two-year-old races over 1000m at the Sunshine Coast on Sunday.

Spiritualised and All That Pizzazz were short-priced favourites to break their maidens, and gave supporters little cause for concern.

Runner-up in his first two starts, Spiritualised led at every call under Ryan Maloney to defeat Bright Tiara (Dissident) by three lengths, with the winner’s stablemate Big Sky Country (Spirit Of Boom) a length back in third.

Spiritualised a $575,000 Magic Millions yearling - the most expensive yearling by Spirit Of Boom

Bought by Gollan Racing/John Foote Bloodstock for $575,000 from the Musk Creek Farm draft at the Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale, Spiritualised is the highest-priced yearling by his sire at public auction.

He is the first foal of the talented Snitzel mare Personalised, who won four of six starts for Michael Costa, with three coming at the Sunshine Coast.

Musk Creek Farm/Boomer Bloodstock (FBAA) went to $525,000 to secure Personalised at the 2019 National Broodmare Sale when carrying Spiritualised.

It has proven to be a sound investment. Following the $575,000 return for the son of Spirit Of Boom, Musk Cree farm’s Dundeel colt out of Personalised was knocked down to M Laurie / ARJB Racing for $525,000 at the 2022 Inglis Premier Yearling Sale.

Personalised is a half-sister to Group 1 VRC Oaks heroine Personal (Fastnet rock) and stakes-placed Trope (More Than Ready) and a three-quarter sister to stakes-placegetters Selectify (Redoute’s Choice) and Laser Flash (Redoute’s Choice).

From the famed family of blue hen Procrastinate, Personalised has a weanling Zoustar filly but missed to Written Tycoon last spring.

Spiritualised became the 18th individual 2yo winner of the season for Spirit Of Boom, and it did not take long to take the total to 19.

Ben Thompson stalked the early pace on All That Pizzazz and, when letting the reins out a notch found an instant response.

Under hands and heels over the final 200m, the gelded son of Spirit Of Boom won by a widening three lengths from the filly Goddess Of Peace (Caravaggio) with a further length back to Bulikov (Deep Field) in third.

It was start two for All That Pizzazz, who debuted with a narrow defeat at Ipswich on June 2.

Also purchased by Gollan Racing/John Foote Bloodstock, All That Pizzazz cost considerably less than his stablemate.

He was hammered down for $70,000 from the Glastonbury Farms draft at the Inglis Classic Yearling Sale.

All That Pizzazz a $70,000 Inglis Classic yearling

He is the first foal of the unraced Encosta de Lago mare Pizzazz, a sister to dual Listed stakes winner Order Of The Sun and to the dam of Group 1 ARC Auckland Diamond Stakes winner Summer Passage.

From the family of another Coolmore favourite, Subterfuge (GB), Pizzazz has a yearling Smart Missile filly, which was a $45,000 purchase for Broadmarsh Stud from the Bhima consignment at the Adelaide Magic Millions Yearling Sale.

Pizzazz has a weanling filly by Written Tycoon and was covered by Farnan last spring.

With 19 individual 2yo winners for the season, Spirit Of Boom edges one clear of Better Than Ready.
