Goldsbury Secures his Pick at Karaka

Media Release - Friday June 17

Central Districts horseman David Goldsbury secured the colt he was after at New Zealand Bloodstock’s National Yearling Sale at Karaka on Friday.

He went to $125,000 to take home lot 73, the Tivaci colt out of O’Me O’My, from Curraghmore’s draft.

“He is a strong colt with plenty of length and good size, with a good page,” Goldsbury said.

“I only saw him this morning but I have done my homework and I am a big fan of O'Reilly, his damsire.

“Ironically, the colt was just three miles down the road from me until recently but I had come all the way to Karaka to buy him.”

Goldsbury said the colt is destined to return through the sale ring in January under his Beckham Equine banner, having sold a Book 2 sale-topping Tivaci filly for $250,000 back in March.

“He will be back here in January as part of our draft,” he said.

“We have a draft of eight now. I had some success selling a Tivaci for good money earlier this year.”

One lot prior bloodstock agent Phill Cataldo secured lot 72, the Tarzino filly out of Nightingale Island, from Highline Thoroughbreds draft for $150,000.

Cataldo was active at Karaka on Friday, securing eight weanlings.

“I bought her for a client in Australia that is a fan of Tarzino,” Cataldo said.

Highline Thoroughbreds principal Cam Heron was pleased with the result.

“I am rapt with the result and the filly was bought by a good judge,” he said.

“I like to get them on the market early and get people bidding but she was on the market quite early.

“NZB did a nice job of getting people out to the farm where the filly got some great exposure.
