Foxwedge's Foxy Frida Romps in the Centaurea Stakes

Mark Smith - Saturday May 21

In the first two in eleven of her previous 15 starts, the Andrew Noblet-trained Foxy Frida finally had the cards fall her way in a stakes race.

Ridden by Billy Egan, the 4yo daughter of Foxwedge charged home to win Saturday’s Listed  Dominant Centaurea Stakes (2015m) at Morphettville by a widening two and a half lengths.

A tragedy beaten when second in the Group II Queen Of The South Stakes at her most recent start, Foxy Frida advances her record to six wins and six seconds from 16 starts with earnings of $550,045.

“She’s very consistent, never runs a bad race and tries all the time,” Noblet said.

‘She did not have much luck here last week, but Billy gave her a great ride today, and she got the job done.

“When the pace increased, she got a lovely drag into the race. He was clicking her along a long way out. But I know what she’s got there, and she might get further than that.

“She has done enough this time around. She is still maturing and filling out, so we will get her ready for the spring.”

The imported Lope De Vega mare La Dragontea (GB) claimed second, four and a half lengths ahead of the More Than Ready (USA) mare Starelle.

Foxy Frida failed to make her $50,000 reserve at the Inglis Premier Yearling Sale

Foxy Freda is a homebred for Mill Park Stud after passing her in short of her $50,000 reserve at the 2019 Inglis Melbourne Premier Yearling Sale.

A half-sister to multiple stakes-placed Ritratto (Fiorente), Foxy Frida is the best of three winners from four to race out of the stakes-placed Excellent Art mare Family Portrait.

Family Portrait has a 2yo filly by Divine Prophet, a weanling Hellbent filly and was covered by King’s Legacy last spring.

Foxy Frida is the 25th stakes winner for Woodside Park Stud’s Foxwedge, which covers for a value fee of $11,000 this spring.
