Swiss Exile - First Stakes Winner for Pariah

Mark Smith - Saturday May 14

Swiss Exile chose the right spot to break his maiden in Saturday's $250,000 Group II Spirit Of Boom Classic (1200m) at Eagle Farm to credit Pariah with his first stakes winner.

Ridden by Sam Clipperton for Annabel Neasham, Swiss Exile repelled the challenge of the Exosphere filly Exo Lady by a half-length in a length of the straight stoush.

The daughter of Pariah placed in three of her previous four starts with thirds in the Group III BJ McLachlan Stakes and Listed Phelan Ready Stakes.

It was a further two and a quarter lengths back to the $900,000 So You Think colt Political Debate and the Bel Esprit colt Thelwell who dead-heated for third.

Clipperton said the intention was to be positive but not necessarily to lead.

"It wasn't the plan to lead, but Annabel instructed me to be firm early and take up a handy position," Clipperton said.

"He jumped really well, and I knew I was going to lead in the first four strides, so I showed intent and made sure everyone knew it.

"I was able to find a lovely rhythm in front, and he enjoyed it. He had his ears pricked, but I was mindful that it is a long straight here at Eagle Farm.

"I was trying to hold him together as best I could but still holding his revs. For the rain that we're getting, the track is really good. It is quite unbelievable.

"I think he'll get seven furlongs, no dramas. Maybe even a mile. He just needs to settle a bit better, but I think that was a confidence-boosting win today. and now he can go on with it."

Swiss Exile a $95,000 Adelaide Magic Millions yearling

Purchased by Annabel Neasham Racing/Brian McGuire for $95,000 from the Baramul Stud draft at the 2021 Magic Millions Adelaide Yearling Sale, Swiss Exile is the second winner from as many to race out of the Swiss Ace mare Swiss Francs, whose 3yo All Too Hard filly One More Grandy won on debut at Oakbank on April 18.

A great-grandaughter of the top-class racemare and broodmare skating, Swiss Francs has not had a live foal since Swiss Exile.

A son of Redoute's Choice, Pariah stands at Arrowfield Stud in 2022 for a fee of $16,500.
