Media Release - Thursday May 5

A quartet of exciting Chris Waller-trained 3YOs will be offered in a rare buying opportunity as part of the Inglis Digital May (Early) Online Sale, which opens for bidding tomorrow.

The G2 and G3 winner - and G1 placegetter - Coastwatch (Fastnet Rock) will be joined by G2 winner and last-start Rosehill winner O’President (Fastnet Rock) as well as lightly-raced, three-time city winners Starman (Zoustar) and Cape Breton (Vancouver).

The four gallopers will be offered by Chris Waller Racing on behalf of a syndicate that includes Coolmore and partners.

Coastwatch is one of the best 3YOs of his crop, having finished third behind In The Congo and Anamoe in last year’s G1 Golden Rose, beating home the likes of Artorius, Tiger Of Malay, Captivant, Jamaea, Hilal, Startantes etc.

Coastwatch – a 2YO winner early in his career - is also a two-time Group winner, having won the G3 Ming Dynasty Handicap as a spring 3YO last year before training on to claim this year’s G2 Autumn Stakes at Caulfield.

He looks an obvious candidate for the $7.5m Golden Eagle at Rosehill in the Spring.

O’President has won three of his eight career starts including the G2 Skyline Stakes as a 2YO, defeating G1 winner Captivant and G1 performer Hilal.

He won his most recent start in late March and has accepted to run in Saturday’s $500,000 The Coast at Gosford.

He too looks an ideal candidate for any number of the valuable races through the Sydney Spring program.

Cape Breton and Starman have both won three races each from nine and eight starts respectively and have abundant upside for their new owners.

Trainer Chris Waller said all four horses would be worthy purchases for new connections.

“Coastwatch is a very talented horse, consistently running against the best horses,’’ Waller said.

“He was not suited by the wet tracks through the autumn and should bounce back through the spring.

“O’President, since being gelded, has bounced back to his best form and I expect him to hold this form and should have no trouble moving back to Group level moving forward.

“Starman is a talented sprinter who needs good tracks to show his best and on better surfaces I think he will be a good money earner.

“And Cape Breton, he’s a handy horse who attacked the line strongly, from a long way back last start. He holds an entry for the Rough Habit Plate which will suit him well.’’

Coolmore’s Racing Manager Rob Archibald added: “The four geldings on offer in the Inglis Digital Sale are all lightly-raced, genuine, fit and sound horses with plenty more to give.

“While they do not fit our model of identifying colts to go to stud like Home Affairs, each of them has the scope to compete at Stakes level for their new owners.

“Thanks must go to Chris Waller and his team, who have done a fantastic job at managing their careers to date and presenting them in such great order.’’

The full catalogue for the Inglis Digital May (Early) Online Sale will be finalised overnight and be live for bidding from 3pm tomorrow.

The final countdown of bidding will begin from midday on Wednesday, May 11.
