Juvenile Trial Watch – Randwick

Tara Madgwick - Monday May 2

There was plenty of action at the Randwick trials this morning with exciting 3YO Mazu, favourite for the upcoming Group I BRC Doomben Ten Thousand winning a heat, while there were also nine juvenile trial winners including one with a similar profile to the good looking son of Maurice (Jpn).

Mazu looked a picture before his trial and raced accordingly winning his 1045m heat by a length and a half well held together by Sam Clipperton to beat Signore Fox.

An impressive winner at the official spring 2YO trials last year, the Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott trained Kibou has quite a bit in common with Mazu.

Also by Maurice, he had one start in the Group III ATC Breeders Plate finishing ninth and pulling up shinsore before being spelled and gelded and looked great in winning his heat at his first appearance since then.

Gelding brought out the best in Mazu and may well work wonders on Kibou.

Bought from Inglis Classic as was Mazu, Kibou was snapped up by Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott / Kestrel Thoroughbreds for $170,000 from the Arrowfield draft and he is from Fortiche, a half-sister to multiple Group winner Mic Mac.

Kibou is by the same sire as Mazu and looks a good candidate to improve for being gelded.

Another Japanese bred stallion making his presence felt was Rich Hill Stud’s Deep Impact son Satono Aladdin (Jpn), who looks to have a nice filly in the Trelawney Stud homebred Koshu (NZ) , who steamed home down the outside to win her heat with some style.

Trained by John O’Shea, Koshu is a half-sister to a pair of Group I winners in Loire and Touch of Ruby being from terrific producer Syrah, who has had seven foals to race all winners and it looks like Koshu will be number eight.

There’s rarely a set of city trials that doesn’t feature a Russian Revolution in the mix and he posted a promising winner in the Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott trained colt Gold Revolver, who did enough to win at his first public outing.

A modest $125,000 Inglis Classic purchase from the Doran Park draft for Gai Waterhouse / Adrian Bott Racing, Gold Revolver runs in the Blueblood Thoroughbreds colours for a big group of owners.

Gold Revolver as a yearling.

Bred by Yulong, he is the first foal from Goldylux, a half-sister by Equiano to Group III winner Magnapal and to the dam of Magic Millions 2YO Classic winner Le Chef.

As a full brother to Group I winner Booker and Group placed stakes-winner Banquo, Written Tycoon colt Oriental Tycoon has a bit to live up to and looks ready to go to the races in winning his second trial this preparation.

A $620,000 Inglis Easter purchase from the Yarraman draft for IRON / George Moore Bloodstock, Oriental Tycoon is trained by Peter and Paul Snowden for IRON.

Other 2YO heat winners were: Baroque Road (Caravaggio (USA), Lady Harlem (Sebring), Musical Affair (Your Song),  Encroachment (No Nay Never (USA) and Doublesharkattack (Impending).
