Morvada Completes a Memorable Day for the Jolly Clan

Mark Smith - Sunday May 1

It would have been a rollicking old time for the Jolly family on Saturday night after the Jolly clan cleaned up half the card at Morphettville on Group 1 Australasian Stakes Day.

David got the ball rolling early with two winners, Miss Langtry (Free Eagle) and Gaze Grise (Puissance De Lune).

Dave’s brother Richard and Richard’s daughter Chantelle chipped in with the exciting Divine Prophet filly See You In Heaven in the Group III Breeders’ Stakes.

Not to be outdone the patriarch, Peter Jolly, completed a four-timer for the family when Jamie Kah steered the grand old money-spinner Morvada to victory in the Listed City Of Adelaide Hcp (1400m).

It was the fourth stakes success for Morvada who has banked nearly $800,000 from nine wins and 21 placings in a 58-start career.

The 8yo son of Mossman began his career back in November

“He’s a marvel. I’ve always said the Mosman’s get better with age, Jolly said.

“For a horse that did a tendon, and a suspensory ligament as a three-year-old – given time he came back and is racing the best in his career.

“I still think he has another couple of years in him. He is like me, he will keep going. He deserved that today.

“Today has been fantastic. Probably one of my best days in racing.”

A $200,000 purchase by his trainer at the 2015 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale, Morvada is the best of five winners from eight to race out of the Carnegie mare Carnegie Minstrel who is a half-sister to stakes-winner Scarlet Vanhara from the family of Group 1 ARC New Zealand Derby winner Zonda and Group II QTC PJ O'Shea Stakes winner Magnolia Hall.

Carnegie Minstrel has a 2yo colt by Press Statement and a weanling filly by Showtime.
