Rubick's Rubiquitous all The Way in Mick Dittman Plate

Mark Smith - Saturday April 23

A big firmer in betting, the 3yo Rubick gelding Rubiquitous gave his supporters a thrill when leading at every call in Saturday’s Listed Mick Dittman Plate (1100m) at Doomben.

Ridden by Brad Stewart, the Chris Anderson-trained gelding defeated Miss Hipstar (Star Turn) by a long neck with a further three-quarter length back to Joyous Legend (Snitzel) in third.

Connections had to sweat through a protest by Larry Cassidy on the runner-up before Rubiquitous was declared the winner.

“They are a magnificent group of owners who have been long time supporters of the stable,” Anderson said.

“I did say to them pre-race that I cannot think of a time where I’ve brought a better $51 pop to the races in my life,” Chris Anderson said.

“His trial was outstanding. He actually beat Prince Of Boom in the trial, and he still had a little bit underneath. I guess there was a little bit of money for him on the basis of how well he did trial.

“Brad might have gone a bit early, but I guess that that is the advantage of having someone on that knows the horse so well.

“I thought he was gone a number of times in the straight.

“He is a beautiful big, strong bugger. His full sister One Shy Ruby is a stakes performer for the stable.”

Rubiquitous a $35,000 Inglis Classic yearling

A $35,000 purchase for Chris Anderson Racing / Steve Morley Bloodstock from the Amarina Farm draft at the 2020 Inglis Classic Yearling Sale, Rubiquitous advances his record to four wins and two seconds from nine starts with earnings of $195,350.

A brother to stakes-placed One Shy Ruby, Rubiquitous is the third winner from as many to race out of the winning Bel Esprit mare Novaspirit who has a 2yo colt by Rubick and a weanling filly by Rubick.

The daughter of Bel Esprit was covered by Headwater last spring.

Rubiquitous is the fourth stakes winner for Swettenham Stud’s Rubick.
