Bred to Swim - Tapeesa Gets the Job Done on Debut

Mark Smith - Tuesday April 19

The Trent Busuttin and Natalie Young-trained filly Tapeesa displayed the ticker of her half-brother Dreamforce and dam Eskimo Queen when making a winning career debut in a 2yo maiden plate (1106m) at Geelong on Tuesday.

Ridden by Daniel Moor, the daughter of Snitzel was made to earn her win by the outsider of the field She Daresthe Devil (Puissance de Lune), with the judge finding a margin of a nose.

The speedy Thronum filly Belle Thronum completed a trifecta for debutants when three and a quarter length back in third.

Natalie Young said the Snitzel filly relished the heavy track.

"I thought she was quite tough. She was headed 100m out, and to her credit, she fought back," Young said.

"She is a filly bred to get a little more of a trip. She had the track to her liking today.

"A few of her owners are here today, Peter Darby and the crew, so it is nice they had a bit of luck.

"Her mom was a super horse that won a Group 1 on a heavy 10, and she is a half-to a Group 1. Sometimes you have to buy the more expensive ones to get the pedigree going for her later on to be a broodmare."

Bred and part-owned by Boutique Thoroughbreds, Trapeesa was a $430,000 purchase for Busuttin Racing from the Three Bridges Thoroughbreds draft at the 2021 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale.

A half-sister to Group 1 ATC George Ryder Stakes winner and $2.5million earner Dreamforce (Fastnet Rock), Trapeesa is the eighth foal and sixth winner from the Group 1 STC Coolmore Classic and Group 1 Queensland Oaks winner Eskimo Queen (Shinko King).

Eskimo Queen was a real underdog makes good story.

She was a $2,500 purchase at the 2004 NZB National Weanling Sale and $10,000 at the 2005 NZB Festival Yearling.

The daughter of Shinko King won two and placed in two of her four starts in New Zealand before crossing the Tasman, finishing third on debut in the Group III Doomben Roses before a commanding win in the Queensland Oaks.

Boutique Bloodstock / Paul Willetts shelled out $400,000 for Eskimo Queen when carrying Trapeesa at the 2019 Inglis Chairman's Sale.

Sadly, Boutique Bloodstock lost the dual Group 1 winner, prompting them to purchase an interest back in Trapeesa, who is the tenth 2yo winner of the season for Snitzel.
