Juvenile Trial Watch – Randwick

Tara Madgwick - Tuesday April 19

It was a busy morning for trials at Randwick with six heats for two year-olds and four of them were won by the progeny of first season sires.

Leading first season sire Russian Revolution clocked in with two heat winners, the first to salute being the Peter and Paul Snowden trained unraced colt Magadan.

Magadan has some depth to his pedigree that would suggest his best will come at three and beyond. Bred by Go Bloodstock, he is a half-brother to two winners, his dam Tempting Delight is a half-sister by Northern Meteor to Group II winner Champagne Harmony from the family of Group I stars St Reims, Champagne, Bonneval and Charmont.

The second winner for Russian Revolution was the Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott trained filly Miss Black Diamond, who was having her first public outing.

Miss Black Diamond was bred by Rosemont Stud and is the second foal of Group II winning sprinter Miss Appleton.

Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott also prepared the next two heat winners both racing for Dynamic Syndications.

A champion son of Galileo, Highland Reel (IRE) has had only a handful of runners in Australia with smart filly Hi Dubai showing good potential at her first outing, travelling deep all the way and hitting the line hard.

She is the second foal of eight time winning Dubawi mare Eureka Dubai, who comes from the family of Group II winner Eureka Jewel and this season’s stakes-winning brothers Marine One and Cannonball.  Her half-sister by Sioux Nation (USA) is in the Inglis May Sale, click to see her page.

She’s bred on a very successful international nick between Galileo and Dubawi, the pair combining in the pedigrees of 31 stakes-winners, five of them Group I winners including 2020 European Horse of the Year Ghaiyyath and last year’s Epsom Derby winner Adayar.

The Dynamic Syndications colours were also carried by Baroque Road, a Caravaggio (USA) gelding  that worked forward from a wide gate to lead all the way and win.

Also keep an eye on a couple of the beaten horses that hold interest, both trained by Michael Freedman and both having easy trials. Backrower is a half-brother to triple G1 winner Le Romain and Hawaii Five Oh is the brother to ill-fated Group II winner Libertini.

Baroque Road is a half-brother to stakes-placed Independent Road and is from Malibu Road (USA), who has had five to race all winners and is a grand-daughter of Kentucky Oaks winner Blush With Pride, the family producing champions Rags to Riches and Peeping Fawn.

Additional heat winners were: Vinnie’s Spirit (I Am Invincible) and Ringmaster (Zoustar), an expensive unraced gelding that runs in the China Horse Club colours.

Bred by Lightning Thoroughbreds, Ringmaster is a half-brother to Group II placed Blazerro and his dam Blazing Snitzel has had four foals to race all winners. Second and third dams are by Carnegie and Shirley Heights , so this isn’t just a speed pedigree with dual Group I winner Julinsky Prince and Group I placed Nudge on the page.
