Pedigree Watch – France

Tara Madgwick - Sunday April 17

Stakes racing at Longchamp overnight produced some interesting stakes-winners with a new stakes-winner for Arrowfield Stud shuttler Shalaa (IRE) and a first stakes win for the full brother to now retired staying star Finche (GB).

Bred and raced by Juddmonte, Finche was an eye-catching and popular member of the Chris Waller stable when he raced out here for several seasons contesting two Melbourne Cups before retiring in 2020.

The towering chestnut has a full brother called Baratti, who has been handled patiently by Andre Fabre and claimed his first Black Type win when taking out the Listed Prix Lord Seymour (2400m).

Baratti is the 88th stakes-winner for Frankel and is the fourth stakes-winner from outstanding producer Binche, who has left Group I winners Proviso and Byword as well as Group II winner and multiple  Group I placed Finche.

Shalaa added a sixth stakes-winner to his tally when 3YO colt Welwal won the Group III Prix de Fontainebleu (1600m) by a neck at his second run of the year for Al Shaqab Racing.

Consistent previously with two wins and two seconds from four starts, he appeals as a progressive colt with more to offer.
