Zoustar 2YOs Impress at Tattersalls Craven Sale

Tara Madgwick - Thursday April 14

In Australia, we know just how good the progeny of Zoustar can be, but for the European market he’s an unknown with his first crop of NH bred two year-olds to race this year and some high profile results at the Tattersalls Craven Breeze Up Sale this week have given cause for optimism.

Zoustar filly from Saccharose sold for 400,000 guineas.

Zoustar had the second highest priced filly of the sale with the Aguiar Bloodstock consigned filly from Saccharose selling for 400,000 guineas.

Bought by Peter & Ross Doyle Bloodstock / Omnihorse, she is from winning Exceed and Excel mare Saccharose, a daughter of stakes-winner Spinacre from the V family of the Aga Khan that has produced countless Group I winners including Vadamos, Val Royal, Vahorimix, etc.

She was a super successful pinhook sourced from Arqana last August for 75,000 euros.

"She is outstanding, I have not seen a filly like that for a long time," said Ross Doyle.

"She is an unbelievable individual, she breezed well, she comes from a very good home and came highly recommended. She is for a new client."

The filly was a wild card entry for the sale and was the last horse offered in the first session.

"She is just a bit different, you don't see many like that physically,” Doyle continues.

“She stands up as a very good specimen. She has a lovely big ear, an honest head, everything is in the right place and she takes everything very easy.”

Zoustar had another big result with a filly from Oasis Dream mare Cordial fetching for 270,000 guineas for Gaybrook Lodge Stud when bought by Stetchworth and Middle Park Studs’ Bill Gredley.

Zoustar filly from Cordial sold for 270,000 guineas.

"I was underbidder on lot 116, but I like this filly. A lot of people liked her, she was a lot of money but if you want something good you have to pay a lot of money," said Gredley.

"We have the stud, so we will race her and if she gets to the track and wins she will be a breeding prospect further down the line," he added.

"I don't often buy at breezes, but we took a look at her and she has a nice personality. I don't know yet who will train her but I will have a chat with my son Tim who is currently showjumping in Spain. It is really exciting, and I can name her!"

Consigned by Jim McCartan's Gaybrook Lodge Stud, the filly was bought as a yearling for 70,000 guineas by MC Bloodstock from Galloway Stud at the Tattersalls Somerville Yearling Sale.

A half-sister to two winners, she is from a winning half-sister to Group III winner Monarchs Glen the family of dual Group I winner Nebraska Tornado.
