Posthumous Success for Viscount

Mark Smith - Sunday July 30

The final stakes race of the 2016-17 season in Australia was a first for the term for a stallion who was fresh off celebrating his role as the broodmare sire of the winner of the second last stakes race of the season.

The death of Viscount in November last year after covering just one mare barely rated a mention.

In contrast the son of Epsom Derby winner Quest For Fame was rarely out of the headlines in his spectacular racing career whether it was his miraculous win in the Group I AJC Sires' Produce Stakes after nearly unseating Rodney Quinn when spotting a flock of seagulls and running to the outside fence or the often discussed 2001 Cox Plate where he was the pinball between the champions Northerly and Sunline.

While his stud career ended with a whimper, Viscount had commanded a service fee of $33,000 in 2006 and 2007.

He had sired the likes of the well-named Singapore flying machine Rocket Man, Group I South Australian Derby winner Kidnapped and the Group I Queen Of The Turf Stakes winner Neroli.

It was Neroli's sister Pattamada who produced Saturday's Listed SAJC Lightning Stakes winner Bandipur.

It was an interesting mating as both his sire Commands and damsire Viscount descend from the magnificent Eight Carat.

It was left to Viscount's son Profit Street to stage a last to first performance in the final stakes race of the season, the Listed HG Bolton Sprint at Belmont.

The 5yo gelding was having his first taste of stakes company and he could hardly have been more impressive.

Given a patient ride by Brad Parnham, Profit Street stormed home to defeat Flying Time by one and a quarter lengths with It's It another two and three-quarter lengths back in third.

Trained by the father and son team of Peter and Matt Giadresco, Profit Street advances his record to 9 wins, 4 seconds and 3 thirds from 21 starts with earnings of $317,300.

"He's been great this prep," Matt Giadresco told the West Australian.

"I'm just really happy. He's been going great. I rode him Thursday and he just felt brilliant underneath me.

"He's just got a good turn of foot and he can carry weight.

"He was a little bit tardy at the start, but he (Parnham) was able to loom him up, very balanced and just kick away."

The Listed Belmont Newmarket (1200m) in a fortnight has been pencilled in for Profit Street.

The son of Viscount was purchased by Peter Giadresco for $77,500 out of the Korilya Stud draft at the 2013 Magic Millions Perth Yearling Sale.

A half-brother to four winners, he is the fifth foal of the unraced Zeditave mare Street Show who is a daughter of the highly talented Street Talk (Marauding) the winner of four Listed stakes races in Melbourne in the mid 1990's.

Street Show's 2yo filly by Gingerbread Man won on debut at Ascot in December before running sixth in the Listed Gimcrack Stakes at Ascot in March.

Street Show has a weanling colt by I Am Invincible but missed to Rubick last spring.
