Daughter Of Galileo Makes it a Family Affair

Mark Smith - Friday April 8

There was a notable family double in Victoria on Thursday with Quraysha earning a Breednet One To Watch rating at Kilmore before her imported ‘auntie’ Love Takes Time (IRE) impressed at Pakenham.

The Ciaron Maher & David Eustace-trained I Am Invincible filly Quraysha scored a barnstorming victory in a fillies and mares maiden over 1100m at Kilmore.

It was just the second start for the Gerry Harvey homebred, who is a daughter of the royally related Precious Lorraine (read the story here).

Precious Lorraine is a daughter of Monsoon Wedding, a stakes-placed sister to Redoute’s Choice.

After having ten foals in as many years in Australia, Monsoon Wedding headed to Europe in 2015 after being purchased by Coolmore Stud for $2,300,000 at the Teeley Asset Dispersal.

It was there that she foaled Love Takes Time (IRE).

Carrying the colours of John Camilleri’s Fairways Thoroughbreds, the daughter of Galileo (IRE) earned a second win from five starts with a fast-finishing win over 1400m.

Trained by Anthony and Sam Freedman, Love Takes Time (IRE) had created a huge impression at her first start with a last to first performance at Moe almost a year ago.

The esteem this family is held can be judged from the six daughters of Monsoon Wedding that have sold for $1million or more.

Winning rider Damien Thornton rode the daughter of Galileo when she was a luckless third at Mornington and that played on his mind in the straight.

“It looked likely it was DeJa’Vu from Mornington first-up. Sam and Anthony were probably throwing the remote at the TV, but it worked out in the end,” Thornton told Racing.Com.

“I was eventually able to get to the outside and she let down with a nice turn of foot, which we knew she had, but did not get to see it last time.

“There was good tempo it was just a matter of navigating through from barrier one in a small field.

“I was instructed to ride her a bit quieter from the gate, get her to relax and switch off, which she did.

“I think she is definitely city grade and she will only improve on what she has done tonight.”
