Fourth Stakes-Winner for Churchill

Tara Madgwick - Monday April 4

Coolmore shuttler Churchill (IRE) sired his fourth stakes-winner over the weekend in Italy with progressive three year-old colt Il Grande Gatsby taking out the Listed Premio Pisa (1600m).

Previously a three time winner, Il Grande Gatsby was doing his best work late, forging clear to win in dominant style by four lengths under Frankie Dettori.

Il Grande Gatsby is the first stakes-winner among five winners from good producing Group II placed mare Irene Watts, whose grand-dam is a half-sister to Group II winner Russian Lady. His fourth dam Marcela holds some Australian interest as the daughter of Reform is also the fourth dam of Champion Australian 3YO Filly Alinghi.

A Champion Miler by Galileo, Churchill has made a  promising start with his first Australian runners siring Sydney metro winners Conqueror and Robusto from a handful of starters.

He has one entry in Inglis Easter to be offered as Lot 180 by Coolmore and this handsome chestnut colt is a half-brother to Group I winner Bella Vella from Forget the Weather (USA).
