Another Newcastle G3 Win for Gem Song

Tara Madgwick - Monday March 28

Winner of the Group III Newcastle Newmarket in March last year, 6YO Your Song gelding Gem Song returned to his happy hunting ground to win the Group III ATC Star Kingdom Stakes (1200m) at his first run back from a spell on Monday.

Ridden by Hugh Bowman and trained by Kris Lees, Gem Song came with a well timed late run to win by a length and a half.

Gem Song advances his record to seven wins and five placings from 22 starts with earnings in excess of $750,000.

Bred and initially raced by Gooree Stud, Gem Song now runs for a group of Australian Bloodstock owners and is a half-brother to stakes-winner The Omega Man out of the crack racemare Beautiful Gem.

A daughter of Peintre Celebre (USA), Beautiful Gem won nine races highlighted by the Group II Sunline Stakes at Moonee Valley.

Now retired, Beautiful Gem is a daughter of the Group III Black Opal Stakes winner and Group I Golden Slipper runner-up Just Blooming.

Gem Song is one of four stakes-winners for Widden Stud’s quiet achiever Your Song.
