First Win for Mystic Journey Sister

Tara Madgwick - Sunday March 27

One of the best horses to come out of Tasmania in recent years has been $4million earning Group I winning filly Mystic Journey and her half-sister Seasons in De Sun broke through for her first win at Ballarat on Sunday.

Trained by Tony Noonan, the daughter of Fighting Sun has shown steady improvement this preparation and relished the step up to 2000m for her fifth start.

She raced midfield before looming into contention out wide on the turn and was strong to the line to beat older rivals and win by a length and a quarter in an encouraging performance.

A $200,000 Inglis Premier purchase from the Springmount draft for her trainer, Seasons in de Sun is the fifth winner from six to race from good producer White Gold and is her final foal.

Seasons in de Sun was the most expensive yearling filly by the late Fighting Sun.

She is the most expensive filly by her sire Fighting Sun, who died in 2020, and has the big pedigree which made her hot property in the sale ring.

She is a half-sister to Champion 3YO Filly Mystic Journey, whose highlight wins were the Group I VRC Australian Guineas and All Star Mile, and also to the dam of stakes-winner Mystical Pursuit.

Both Mystic Journey and Mystical Pursuit are by Encosta de Lago sire Needs Further and Fighting Sun is one of Encosta de Lago’s grand-sons making Seasons in de Sun closely related to that talented duo.

Mystic Journey was sold to Japan at the end of last year and will start her stud career this year.
