One to Watch – Flemington

Tara Madgwick - Wednesday September 27
The first foal of former brilliant Sydney sprinter Ladys Angel broke her maiden in impressive fashion at Flemington on Wednesday.

A three year-old filly by Star Witness, the Robert Smerdon trained Divine Messenger was narrowly beaten at her first run back from a spell at Mornington earlier this month.

Divine Messenger as a yearlingShe stripped fitter this time around and powered to the line to win the 1000 metre sprint for fillies by a length and a half with Black Caviar's first born Oscietra trailing home in ninth place.

"She changed stride a few times coming up the straight, but did a super job," said winning rider Ethan Brown.

"Going forward from here she's a really nice horse."

An $80,000 Magic Millions purchase for Ricky Surace's B2B Bloodstock from the draft of Widden Stud, Divine Messenger is a dashing chestnut like her mum and dad and shows plenty of their ability as well.

She is the first foal of brilliant Group I placed stakes-winner Ladys Angel, who comes from the flying family of Mother Duck.
