Siyouni's Amelia's Jewel Goes Two for Two in Gimcrack

Mark Smith - Sunday March 20

While Fireburn left fans stunned with a miraculous win in the Golden Slipper, Amelia's Jewel was stamping her authority in the west with a more cold-blooded performance in the Listed Furphy Gimcrack Stakes (1100m) at Ascot.

Given a patient ride by Patrick Carberry from an outside barrier, the Simon Miller-trained daughter of Siyouni picked her opponents off in the blink of an eye. By the time she reached 100m, it was a matter of how far.

That proved to be two and a half lengths, with the A Lot filly Costume Party going one better than her third to Amelia's Jewel in the Listed Supremacy Stakes. The Universal Ruler filly Penny On The Queen was a nose back in third.

A homebred by owners Peter and Annie Walsh's Amelia Park, Amelia's Jewel is by champion French stallion Siyouni. She is the first foal of the stakes-placed Canford Cliffs mare Bumbasina (IRE).

Consigned to the 2019 Tattersalls July Sale, Bumbasina (IRE) was a 75,000 guineas purchase for Louis Le Metayer's Astute Bloodstock.

Bumbasina (IRE) is a half-sister to Group II winner Epona Playsustralia) and Group III winner Dolce Strega (Zoffany).

Bumbasina (IRE) has a yearling colt by Merchant Navy, which topped Magic Millions Perth Book 2, selling for $160,000.

After foaling a colt by Blue Point (IRE) last spring, she was covered by Capitalist.

The sire of Arc winner Sostass and the potential shuttler St Mark's Basilica,  Haras de Bonneval's Pivotal stallion Siyouni (FR), has three stakes winners in Australia, the Group II Todman Stakes winner Aylmerton, Listed winner See You In Spring, and Amelia's Jewel.
