Tour de Force for Anamoe in Rosehill Guineas

Mark Smith - Saturday March 19

The $600,000 Group 1 Sky Racing Rosehill Guineas (2000m) at Rosehill proved a tour de force for Godolphin’s Caulfield Guineas hero Anamoe.

Given a positive ride by James McDonald as he chased a fired up Profondo, Anamoe struck the front shortly after straightening and kept increasing his margin over the chasing pack.

The son of Street Boss (USA) put a six and a half length margin over Frankel’s high-class son Converge with a further three-quarter of a length back to the Savabeel colt Forgot You in third.

The winner of the Group 1 ATC Sires’ produce Stakes at two, Anamoe advances his record to seven wins, five seconds and two thirds from 15 starts with earnings of $4,783,275.

Cumming said the public had the opportunity to see a horse at the top of his game.

“It has been wonderful for everyone to see what I have been able to see, the potential in the horse, who put it on display in a really good race, a classic,” Cummings said.

“He towelled them up. That’s a sign of a quality horse, I think. If that’s not the performance of a champion three-year-old this season, I don’t know what is.”

“The horse was here 12 months ago running second in the Golden Slipper after drawing barrier 15 of 15. He is just a pure racehorse, an absolute athlete and he is just a pleasure to do anything with.

“For us, one worry might be it was a little too easy three weeks out from the Queen Elizabeth. We might have to have a little discussion whether he might need one more between now and then to be bang on for that.

“That’s a pretty exciting performance there. We are very lucky for His Highness Sheikh Mohammed that we’ve got a horse of his calibre that will one day be good enough to join the roster.”

Anamoe is a half-brother to Irish stakes-winner Anamba and is the fourth winner from six to race out of the Group I SAJC Australasian Oaks winner Anamato.

A half-sister by champion sire Redoute’s Choice to Group I winner Drum, Anamato has a black type pedigree that features Group I winners Grand Armee, Yourdeel and Dealer Principal.

Anamato started her stud career in the Northern Hemisphere before being repatriated in 2014.

The daughter of Redoute’s Choice has a filly foal by Blue Point (IRE), but missed to Street Boss (USA) last spring.
