Golden Slipper Barrier Draw - Three Runners for Russian Revolution

Tara Madgwick - Tuesday March 15

The field is out for the 2022 $5million Group I Golden Slipper with race favourite Coolangatta drawing out in gate 14, while quality colts Sejardan, Daumier and Best of Bordeaux have drawn seven, eight and 10.

A field of 16 plus four emergencies has been declared. The 2022 line-up consists of seven colts and nine fillies with the he four emergencies all being colts including debut stakes-winner Millane, who drew gate one.

Coolangatta has not been seen since winning the Magic Millions 2YO Classic, can she win the Slipper ?

Reigning champion sire Written Tycoon is represented by undefeated filly Coolangatta, while champion sires Snitzel and I Am Invincible have runners with winning hopes in unbeaten colt Best of Bordeaux and Queen of the Ball, who backs up from a brilliant win in the Group III Canberra Black Opal Stakes on Sunday.

The only Black Opal winner to go on and win the Golden Slipper was Catbird in 1999 and he got lucky when Redoute’s Choice was scratched on the day due to an elevated temperature, but that said Queen of the Ball is fit, fast and drawn ideally with drying weather in Sydney this week set to bring the track back from the heavy range of recent weeks.

Russian Revolution has three runners in the Slipper!

Newgate Farm sires account for six runners including one emergency with first season sire Russian Revolution represented by Revolutionary Miss, Russian Conquest and Rise of the Masses, Extreme Choice has She’s Extreme, Capitalist has Sebonack and Deep Field has the emergency Sweet Ride.

Arrowfield Stud’s Shalaa (IRE) also has three runners in Shalatin, who is attempting to win the richest two year-old race in the world as a maiden, Seven Veils and Semillion, who is an emergency.
